TGA reports Amoxicillin shortage

The Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA) is reporting a shortage of some antibiotics containing Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid.

There is currently limited availability of CURAM 125/31.25 amoxicillin 125mg/5mL clavulanic acid 31.25mg/5mL powder for suspension bottle, which is used for paediatric dosing, expected to continue until November 2024.

While some brands are unavailable, it is noted there should be enough supply of alternative brands.

Be sure to check with the local pharmacy on their supply, and be ready to prescribe an alternative medicine, referencing the relevant therapeutic guidelines if necessary.
