Statement: APodA's response to cost-of-living support for students announcement
9 May 2024
The Australian Podiatry Association (APodA) welcomes the announcement this week from the Albanese Government about the establishment of a new Commonwealth payment for an estimated 68,000 students studying nursing, teaching and social work.
In its position statement, Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) has aptly called the financial pressures on clinical placements ‘placement poverty’.
APodA joins AHPA and other allied health professions in the call for an expansion of this ‘placement payment’ to ensure the supply of qualified allied health professionals matches demand for services and ensure an equity of choice for consumers in the longer term.
