NDIS Provider Registration: what you need to know

According to a recent poll shared in our 'Podiatrists in Business' Facebook Group, 51% of respondents told us understanding how to navigate NDIS funding is a key challenge.

Read on as we share information regarding NDIS Registration for providers, including requirements to become registered, plus recent updates to the AHPA’s NDIS Registration support website.

NDIS Registration for providers

Working with providers to improve the quality and safety of NDIS services and supports, the NDIS Commission is responsible for the registration and regulation of NDIS providers under a nationally consistent framework.

There are several requirements providers must meet to become registered and to maintain registration with the NDIS Commission.

If you’re a podiatrist who is considering becoming NDIS registered, the Commission has recently issued guidance regarding the content of their registration applications and clarifying the need for providers to be aware of their responsibilities to ensure compliance and the integrity of your practice within the NDIS framework is maintained.

Podiatrists looking to become NDIS providers are guided to be aware of the following:

  • Be actively involved in preparing their application and related documents.
  • Ensure accuracy in representing their organisation and key personnel.
  • Demonstrate suitability to deliver disability supports independently of any consultant’s expertise.

When using consulting services or purchasing policies, the NDIS Commission expects that applicants:

  • Understand and explain the submitted content.
  • Provide specific responses tailored to their organisation, avoiding direct copies of purchased documents.
  • Ensure applications and documents accurately reflect compliance with NDIS provider responsibilities.
  • Provide true information about personnel identified in the application.
  • Ensure policies reflect how the organisation will deliver NDIS supports.

The NDIS Commission highlights that providing false or misleading information in a registration application violates section 73D of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 and may result in civil penalties or criminal charges under section 137.1 of the Criminal Code Act 1995.

Registered NDIS providers may also face suspension or revocation of their registration for false information.

Recent updates to the AHPA’s NDIS Registration support website

AHPA’s NDIS Registration support website has been streamlined with a new format which makes it easier for allied health professionals to decide if they need to register, via which pathway, and where to find the resources required.

Key updates to assist with compliance have been made in response to legislative changes related to emergency and disaster management, and current worker screening, identity and code of conduct compliance requirements.

All changes to the website are listed under the 'updates' tab, including a new webinar detailing and demonstrating the updates.

The NDIS Registration support website has been updated to help allied health-related organisations to:

  • Update their internal systems and remain compliant
  • Ease the re-registration process
  • Enable those registering for the first time to comply with current requirements.
