Ahpra releases new guidance to help practitioners meet professional obligations when using AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is integrating into many areas of healthcare. AI can be defined as ‘computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision making, and translation between languages.’

Recognising the significant potential to improve health outcomes and create a more person-centred health system, Ahpra and National Boards support the safe use of AI in healthcare.

Ahpra has released new guidance to share what safe and effective use of AI should look like, and explain how the existing responsibilities outlined in the National Boards’ codes of conduct apply when practitioners incorporate AI into their practice.

It emphasises key areas such as accountability, understanding, transparency, informed consent, and the ethical and legal implications of AI.

This guidance will be regularly updated to reflect new developments and share updates from other regulators.
