STRIDE Editorial Requirements

STRIDE Editorial Requirements

Editorial requirements and expectations

Please closely review the STRIDE contributor guidelines available here. In particular, please closely adhere to the requirements of Section 1 of these guidelines.

Of particular note:

  • We don’t use references, instead we link the relevant words to the website that contains the research paper. Please do this where possible.
  • There must be no indirect or direct commercial gain resulting from articles written, sourced or commissioned through this role.
  • There must be no other conflict of interest resulting from this role.
  • There must be no self-promotion, promotion of business or organisation or product promotion.
  • Articles are to be national in their relevance and targeted specifically at podiatrists working across Australia in a variety of healthcare settings.
  • If you write an assumption or emotive sentence, please back this up with evidence to support your opinion.
  • If you share a relatively new term or concept, please explain clearly what it means and any other background.
  • Articles should educate or inspire podiatrists with content that either:
    • is new and original in its approach and/or;
    • presents unique viewpoints on existing issues.
  • All facts presented must be supported in the body of the article via a URL reference at a minimum.
  • If you are a practitioner, clearly presented clinical insights are strongly encouraged.

Please note these important points:

  1. Ensure your article is outward facing and focuses not on your brand or your organisation or your role, but on how issues you experience through your role can help to inform or educate other podiatrists in a practical way and on a national or global level. We will not run articles that fail to clearly address this.
  2. While raw information and written ‘brain dumps’ can be accepted by email in lieu of an article, we cannot interview people by phone (or follow a range of independent leads or phone calls to create content for you). The STRIDE editorial team consists of an editor and a part time designer and we do not have the resources to do this. All content needs to be independently supplied by you in written form via email before the deadline. Then the editor can work with this raw content to create angles and turn it into a final article for your sign-off.
  3. The editor has the right to change the wording and style of articles, and monthly contributors and section editors need to respect this and manage their expectations should this happen. By all means, collaboration can take place to edit articles before the set deadline, but contributors and section editors need to respect the role of the editor and their edits as valuable and final unless otherwise contested before the assigned deadline.

Required editorial format

All articles should reflect the following editorial format; whether as a stand-alone article or as part of a section that features several articles.

[Intro] A few sentences to summarise the article and its relevance to podiatrists across Australia and globally.

[Body] The body of the article. Authors are encouraged to use the ‘who, what, why, how, when and where’ structure here; either directly or as a loose guide. If this structure is used directly in the body of the article, the Editor will work this content into an article for you.

[Conclusion / Summary] Summarise the main point of the article in a few sentences.

[Call to action] Provide a few sentences of information for readers such as contact details, useful websites, or where they can find out more information or become involved.

[Bio + headshot if required] This is where you can add a sentence about yourself if you wish, along with a URL link to your website. Please ensure the photo is over 1MB. N.B. Once we have your photo on file, you won’t need to attach it every month.

Deadlines

Submission deadlines are linked in this document here. Please closely study them and the enclosed notes for each issue. If you have any questions, please contact the editor of STRIDE Magazine, Siobhan Doran at siobhan.doran@podiatry.org.au
