Important information about the 2024-25 membership campaign
APodA membership and insurance opens 15 May 2024!
This year there will be changes in the way you renew your membership and insurance with the APodA that you need to be aware of. Please make sure to open membership notification emails that will arrive into your inbox from mid-May which will have further instructions on how to renew. If you are not receiving those emails please check your spam and/or trash folders. Please read on for more information about the changes.
Change to your membership classification
Here’s a quick summary of the changes:
- APodA membership classifications are changing from the previous year.
- The most noticeable change affects members who have insurance included in their membership.
- The modification is due to an updated insurance renewal process that no longer requires insurance to be part of the membership classification. (Nothing changes in regards to your member access and benefits.)
Auto renewals
- We will not be auto-renewing memberships this year due to the change in the insurance renewal process.
- If you selected to auto-renew (rollover) your APodA membership (and insurance) last year, WE DO NEED YOU TO RENEW THIS YEAR..
Changes to insurance renewal process
Here are the things you need to know regarding Professional Indemnity and Public & Products Liability Insurance with your APodA membership:
- If you currently have insurance with your APodA membership, you’ll need to renew it separately through the new BMS Portal.
- Instructions to access the BMS portal to renew your insurance will be provided by email once you have completed your APodA membership renewal.
- It's crucial to renew your insurance before the expiry date of 30 June 2024 to ensure continuous coverage.
Changes to student insurance
Here’s what you need to know regarding your student membership insurance:
Previous process:
- Previously, student members received complimentary student insurance cover from BMS with their APodA student membership.
- The insurance auto-renewed annually until graduation.
Changes this year:
- Your APodA student membership will still auto-renew.
- You will need to opt-in for the complimentary student insurance cover via the BMS Portal. You’ll need to follow the steps provided in your membership confirmation email to do this..
Important notes:
- Student insurance is not automatically assigned to you during membership renewal.
- Be sure to complete the opt-in process to receive the insurance benefits!

You must be a current Australian Podiatry Association (APodA) member to be eligible for the APodA member insurance program. If your membership ceases you will not be offered renewal when your policy expires. In arranging this insurance for our members APodA is acting as a distributor of BMS Risk Solutions Pty Ltd (BMS) AFSL 461594, ABN 45161187980. The insurance is issued by BMS under binder with Certain Underwriters at Lloyds. When acting under a binder BMS acts as agent for the insurer and not as your agent. This is general advice only and BMS has not considered whether it was suitable for your particular objectives, needs or financial situation. Please read the Policy Wording and the BMS Terms of Engagement which contains the Financial Services Guide before making a decision about purchasing this policy.
