eCourse - APodA Nail Surgery

This e-course provides an update on patient education and the consenting process, injection technique and maximum safe dosage of local anaesthetic agents, infection control to ensure a sterile environment, indications for surgery and procedure selection, required instrumentation, a step-by-step guide to performing a nail avulsion and postoperative management.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Patient and Procedure selection; Including informed consent, patient section considerations, how to choose the appropriate procedure
  • Local Anaesthetic Injection; Including set up requirements, technique, contraindications & considerations and calculating MSD's
  • Infection Control; Inlucing Open gloving technique and sterile field considerations
  • Nail procedures; Including step by step set up and procedure instructions
  • Postoperative Management; Including documentation, dressing regime

Your Presenter:
Mr Dane Cartwright


Dane graduated from Charles Sturt University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Health Science (Podiatry). Since then, he has worked in private practice within Wollongong and the New South Wales Southern Highlands prior to opening his own practice in the Wollondilly Shire. During this time, he expanded his skillset in the realm of custom foot orthotics using computer aided design and manufacturing processes. Operating his own commercial grade CNC router to manufacture orthotics for his patients.

Dane has undergone extensive postgraduate study becoming a qualified Podiatric surgical assistant in 2019 after completing a certification in basic surgical training and education. He has also completed certifications in advanced life support, medical laser safety, radiation safety and canulation and venepuncture.

More recently completing a Master of Science degree in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery through Glasgow Caledonian University. In 2022 when working as a surgical trainee he also spent time teaching at the University of South Australia. Teaching anatomy to Podiatry students in the Cadaveric lab and teaching final year students nail surgery. He has presented at State and National Podiatry events hosted by the Australian Podiatry Association. In 2023 he relocated to Canberra to become part of ACT Podiatry. Dane has visiting privileges to the Barton Private Hospital where he works as a surgical assistant to Dr Clews. Dane’s interest in general Podiatry include orthotic therapy for the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and in room minor surgical procedures for the treatment of ingrown toenails and plantar warts.

Certificate of Completion

  • An automated certificate of completion will be emailed to you upon the successful completion of all three (3) online assessments. (pass mark is 80% or higher, 2 attempts only)
  • APodA members can upload the CPD certificate to the CPD portal located in the Member Centre to easily track their CPD hours for the year.

CPD Terms & Conditions

  • By registering for an event with the APodA you will receive APodA correspondence and updates. You can choose to opt-out by unsubscribing.
  • All CPD fees must be paid in advance.
  • All cancellations must be received in writing.
  • Cancellations made less than 14 days prior to the event - 50% of costs paid are refundable.
  • Any CPD refunds given will be provided via the payment method (i.e. if you paid using Credit Card a refund will be processed via the same credit card).
  • Cancellations made less than seven (7) days prior to the event - no refund is available.
  • Participants are considered a “no-show” when they fail to show up to the CPD event they have registered for.
  • When registered participants become a “no-show” they take responsibility for the payment of their event cost and will note their registration cost has been paid for in advance by the APodA. If a participant is a “no-show” they will be responsible for paying 100% of the event cost and will not be eligible for a refund. If the event cost has not yet been paid they will be responsible for paying 100% of their event cost.
  • The APodA reserve the right to cancel or change the time or date of the event or change its venue, content and speakers at any time at our discretion.
  • If the APodA exercises that right of cancellation we will refund 100% of any fees which attendees have paid in advance.
  • Credit card payments paid in advance will be refunded less the merchant fee of 1.5%
