The Presenter:

Dr Antoni Fellas; PhD

Dr Fellas is a lecturer in Podiatry at the School of Health Sciences (SHS), College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing (CHMW), University of Newcastle (UON). Dr Fellas is a member of the 'Equity in Health and Wellbeing Research Program' at the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) and a current member of the Australian Podiatry Association (APODA) and Australian Paediatric Podiatry (APP) Group.

Dr Fellas is an AHPRA registered Podiatrist and has been a practicing clinician since graduating at the UON in 2014. Dr Fellas’ research and clinical focus are the fields of paediatrics, sports, biomechanics and rheumatology. During his PhD Dr Fellas led a multicenter randomised clinical trial at the Sydney Children's Hospitals at Westmead and Randwick and the John Hunter Children's Hospital in Newcastle. This clinical trial explored the effect of a low-cost and safe intervention to reduce lower limb pain and improve outcomes such as quality of life and walking function in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

Awards
In 2022, Dr Fellas presented his research for the annual ‘EULAR’ (European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology) congress which was held in Copenhagen, Denmark. During the congress he was awarded best presentation in the health professional category and awarded paid registration and prizemoney of 1000 euros. Dr Fellas was the winner of 2019 Faculty of Health and Medicine 3-Minute Thesis competition at the UON (Winner received $500 and advanced to the next round competing against the remaining University faculties). The presentation was recorded and uploaded on YouTube. In 2016 Dr Fellas was a successful applicant of the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) for the commencement of a full-time PhD over a 3.5-year period.
