Allied Health Assistants: Who are they and how do they work with Podiatrists?
Join us for a 40-minute presentation to include a 10-minute Q&A session on the topic of 'Allied Health Assistants: Who are they and how do they work with Podiatrists?'
This interactive education session will provide you with the current Department of Health recommendations on working with Allied Health Assistants and how these have been developed through extensive consultation. The presentation team will assist in sharing resources and tools, and will tell their individual stories as to effective podiatric practice with an Allied Health Assistant.
What we will cover:
1. You'll achieve an understanding of why and how Allied Health Assistants are currently used in Victorian health, disability and aged care settings.
2. You'll be familiarised with the current Victorian Allied Health Assistant workforce recommendations and resources
3. You'll identify areas of your own practice where an Allied Health Assistant could be utilised
The Presenter:
Lucy Whelan
Lucy Whelan is a Physiotherapist by background with a Masters of Public Health and a career spanning over 25 years in Australia and the United Kingdom. She is passionate about quality driven improvement and appropriate governance for all.
Lucy is currently an Allied Health Workforce, Innovation, Strategy, Education and Research (WISER) Unit Manager. The WISER Unit, along with the Chief Allied Health Officer, provides governance in workforce, innovation, strategy, education and research for the Allied Health Workforce (1800 people) at Monash Health.
Meet the Pannel:
Alicia James
Alicia James was drawn to the profession of podiatry when she saw how, with the use of clinical podiatry care, you could assist people reduce and manage pain, improve their daily movement, and keep them playing and competing at their favourite sport. Whatever level of health and fitness a patient has, strong, pain-free feet will improve their quality of life.
Alicia has a strong interest in ensuring children of all ages, stages and abilities really can take their best steps, she is one the few podiatrists in Victoria to have completed additional training to become a Certified Paediatric Podiatrist – ApodA.
Alicia enjoys a career that has taken her across Private Practice, Public Health, Endorsement of Scheduled Medicines, Aged Care and Paediatrics. Podiatry has enabled so much opportunity that she is very grateful for. Alicia is currently the Interim Clinical Director Operations and Head of Podiatry at Monash Health, where she enjoys a new challenge of managing large multidisciplinary services.
She remains actively practicing in private practice (Momentum Podiatry) enjoying the buzz of the local community, with the boutique shops, fresh local coffee and family run (and family-friendly) restaurants. While she’s an early bird herself and often first at the clinic for early morning appointments, Alicia would like to encourage her own children to sleep in later than 5am!
Anne Maree Cox
Anne Maree is a highly experienced AHA. whose first career was in the teaching profession. Even when teaching, Anne Maree was always intrigued by the hospital setting. Anne Maree chose to work in the hospital setting when she secured a role as an Allied Health Assistant for Monash Health, with the intention of working out what she “really wanted to do”. After 34 years as an AHA at Monash Health, you could say she’s found it!
Anne Maree worked for the physiotherapy department for 24 years before changing to the podiatry department – a position she has held for the past 10 years. Anne Maree has been a leader within the Monash Health AHA workforce for some time and her experience is integral to the learning for new up and coming AHAs across the network.
