The Australian Podiatry Conference program will dive into the latest thinking in Podiatric Medicine & Diagnosis. Leading industry experts will share the current research and insights in best practice treatments with delegates.
APodA is pleased to welcome Dr Sarah Stewart, Department of Podiatry, Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand as one of our Keynote Speakers of this stream. She will present ‘The patient experience of gout’ and provide an overview of the condition including its pathophysiology and clinical presentation in the lower limb, how it impacts people’s lives, perceptions of the condition and how it is managed.
Gout is often faced with negative stigma, and Dr Stewart will explain the key role Podiatrists can play in shifting the conversation from being caused by dietary-related factors, to the important role of the kidneys and how urate lowering medications can reduce the frequency and severity of gout.

Speaker: Professor Neil Piller
On Thursday 22 June, delegates will hear from world-renowned Lymphologist Professor Neil Piller.
Professor Piller will unpack the lymphatics of the feet and legs and reveal the overall effectiveness of treatment for patients with conditions such as oedemas or lymphoedema.
In particular, Professor Piller will provide Podiatrists with the tools to recognise and respond to dysfunctions in the tissues of the lower feet and limbs to optimise outcomes for patients.

Professor Piller will also be presenting a workshop, ‘Compression of the feet and legs’, which will be a hands-on session. Podiatrists will gain a better understanding about the effect of compression bandaging and the impact of the shape of the foot and leg on the pressure generated on the surface and in the tissues.

Workshop: Palmoplantar Psoriasis
Dr Prue Gramp, Dermatology Registrar, Gold Coast University Hospital, will explore Palmoplantar Psoriasis in her session on Friday 23 June 2023.
In this session Dr Gramp will discuss the different subtypes of palmoplantar psoriasis and a variety of treatment options will be explored such as topicals, phototherapy and systemic treatments. Dr Gramp will share practical tips and insights to help podiatrists treat patients and provide h the best information available.
