Journal of Foot and Ankle Publication Support Policy
Background
Over the life of JFAR, the Australian Podiatry Association (APodA) has supported podiatry research by subsidising the cost of article processing charges for articles submitted for publication to JFAR for eligible APodA members. To date over $AUD500,000 has been dedicated to research through this support by the APodA. The funds available to cover processing fees are capped annually.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide information on:
- JFAR publication support eligibility criteria;
- the process to apply for publication support; and,
- the opportunities for subsidised, published applicants to deliver education and promote their research to the profession once published.
Policy
A benefit of APodA membership is the opportunity available to an eligible member to apply for publication support to JFAR. This policy applies to eligible members who apply for publication support to JFAR through the APodA. All recipients of APodA publication support must comply with this policy.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- hold an eligible membership with the APodA for a minimum of two years with no gap prior to application – refer to the APodA Membership Policy for eligible membership categories;
- have no outstanding debt or written off debt owed to the APodA at the time of application; and,
- be the first, second or last author on the article being submitted
- Not available to graduates or new professional members.
- Affiliate and honorary members must have an active AHRPA number.
Restrictions
The APodA has an annual financial cap on publication support therefore, to ensure support is distributed fairly amongst applications, annual limits are imposed on applicants. The limits are a maximum of two (2) approved applications in a calendar year by an individual applicant.
Authorisation
The APodA reserves the right to reject an individual’s request for support if they do not meet the eligibility criteria or if funds have been exhausted for the year.
Accepted research articles published in JFAR that had their application fee subsidised by the APodA does not indicate APodA endorsement of the research, product(s) or service(s).
In-kind contribution
Successful applicants whose articles are published in JFAR may be asked by the APodA to collaborate with the APodA on an education activity that relates to their research, for example, present at an APodA conference or online webinar. Requests for collaboration will be within 24 months of the published article in JFAR.
Reporting and record keeping
Quarterly reports provided to the APodA Board list the names of applicants, their membership period, publication title, and financial cost paid by the APodA.
Information is also recorded and stored in the individual member’s record in the APodA’s database citing the publication date, title and financial support amount covered.
Submission guidelines
It is the submitting applicants’ responsibility to understand the JFAR submission process.
