Podiatry Board of Australia

Members of the Podiatry Board of Australia are appointed by the Australian Health Workforce Ministerial Council.

The work of the Board is supported by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in each state and territory. The Board has established a Registration and Notification Committee to make decisions about registration and notifications matters where the Board has delegated powers under the National Law.

The functions of the Podiatry Board of Australia include:

  • Registering podiatrists and students.
  • Developing standards, codes and guidelines for the podiatry profession.
  • Handling notifications, complaints, investigations and disciplinary hearings.
  • Assessing overseas trained practitioners who wish to practise in Australia.
  • Approving accreditation standards and accredited courses of study.

Code of Conduct
The Code of Conduct seeks to assist and support registered health practitioners to deliver effective regulated health services within an ethical framework. Practitioners have a duty to make the care of patients or clients their first concern and to practise safely and effectively. Maintaining a high level of professional competence and conduct is essential for good care.

The code contains important standards for practitioner behaviour in relation to:

  • Providing good care, including shared decision making.
  • Working with patients or clients.
  • Working with other practitioners.
  • Working within the healthcare system.
  • Minimising risk.
  • Maintaining professional performance.
  • Professional behaviour and ethical conduct.
  • Ensuring practitioner health.
  • Teaching, supervising and assessing.
  • Research.
